The Spirit Grabbed Me
And then, one ordinary Sunday, He reached out and touched me.
The Savior was missing from my life until a pivotal moment when, as an adult with a wife and children and a job and a busy life, Jesus reached out and touched me. I was enduring yet another laborious sacrament meeting with squirmy kids and a million things on my mind when the concluding speaker stood at the pulpit. He was a man about my age with a family like mine, a good man, but not one I would have considered a spiritual giant.
When he began his talk, however, the Spirit grabbed me by the scruff of the neck and said, “Listen!” I do not remember the words of the talk, but as the speaker explained our need for the mercy and grace of Christ, a light burst inside me. I needed Jesus. I needed Him in the worst way.
It was like I could see Him in the distance, waving to me, beckoning me to come to Him. I was on the wrong side of the gulf. That moment set me on a path to come unto Him, to search for Him, and to follow Him.
Come, walk with the Master.
